Lexton sheep farmer features on Facebook
WHEN an email from Facebook landed in their inbox Rod and Bec McErvale thought it was a hoax.
It said their business Leroy Mac Designs had been chosen by Facebook to feature in its 2019 Facebook Christmas Gift Guide.
Mr McErvale said when they checked and realised it was in fact legitimate, they were thrilled at being chosen as one of 30 regional businesses for the guide.
“We were one of ten of the businesses who were invited to promote ourselves in an online video,” he said.
The couple produce a range of machine-washable woollen blankets, beanies and scarves.
As fourth generation Merino wool growers in Lexton they know and understand the benefits of wool.
“We are very proud that we are one of only a few 100 per cent Australian owned businesses that produce quality wool products wool from our own sheep on our farm in Victoria,” he said.
Leroy Mac Designs was recognised for its achievements in 2018 when it was awarded the Federation Business School Creative Industries Business Award from Commerce Ballarat.
Mr McErvale said they are not sure why they were chosen by Facebook as the offer came out of the blue.
“We think they were looking at Facebook pages that were getting good hits, a lot of interaction and who have got a story that is a bit unique,” he said. “We certainly fit that bill as we are an online business with our website and Facebook our primary media and promotional outlets.”
As part of the gift guide campaign Ms McErvale is attending a Facebook workshop in Canberra along with the other 29 business.
The group will have the opportunity to showcase their products in Parliament House.
“It is such an exciting time for us and we even have a billboard poster up in Stockland Wendouree,” Ms McErvale said.
