HANDY when it comes to sewing, patchworking, knitting, crocheting, or cross-stitching?

The new Linton Craft Group has recently launched to provide a social and productive space for local creatives, meeting at the old Shire Hall on Sussex Street.

Established by quilter Jenny Grigg, the club will be held on Thursdays fortnightly, inviting people to bring a crafty task along and have a chat with friends new and old.

The group was born of community members meeting each other for the first time and asking, ‘what’s your hobby?’

“A lot said to me, ‘I’m a quilter too, but I don’t belong to any group’,” Ms Grigg said.

“Our group is for people who craft to come and do all their own projects and meet other people.”

Two successful sessions have been held so far, with 10 sitting down for five hours at the first one, and others popping in throughout the day to discover more about the group and say hello.

The second meeting saw people 12 participating for the whole time, with more visitors dropping by.

Ms Grigg said the most important thing to be mindful of is that the group is first and foremost a space for community members of all ages, experiences and abilities to come together regularly.

“In the week of the school holidays one lady brought her two children, which was really great. One was crocheting, and the other was drawing.

“We basically all have similar interests, and we like to share what we are doing, but you don’t even have to do a craft, just come and sit and talk,” she said.

Today’s session runs from 10am until 3pm, and the next meeting will be on Thursday, 27 May at the same time. Call 0430 903 005 with any inquiries.
