SLOWLY but surely, the new purpose-built Linton and District Men’s Shed is progressing.

President Michael Hough said the shed has reached a lock-up point, allowing for some safe storage of equipment, with more tradesman yet to come and play their valuable parts.

The committee had a previous goal to be in the new space almost four months ago, but the pandemic’s impacts on trades, supplies and the ability to work, keeps pushing the move-in date back.

“We are waiting on an electrician to finish off the shed wiring. Once that has been completed, we will be in a position to plaster the inside walls,” he said.

“Even more important, the other wait is for our plumber.”

The shed community is also benefiting from the recent Linton Takeaway-run 1960s night fundraiser at the Linton Bowling Club.

This raised thousands of dollars, with approximately $1000 being donated to the Linton and District Men’s Shed’s works and operations, and remaining funds going to the Deafness Foundation and the local school’s Cottage by the Sea camps.

“These funds will go a long way in assisting us to get the shed closer to completed,” Mr Hough said.

“The takeaway is a source of regular encouragement and support for the shed, and we truly value it.”

As COVID-19 restrictions have eased this week, the shed also encourages the wider community, especially potential members, to drop in for a visit on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

From 10am to 4pm, those that come along can meet their neighbours and check out the developing facility.

The Shed is being powered by solar energy setup donated by Goldwind via the Stockyard Hill Wind Farm’s Community Investment Program.

“It is a system that enables us to connect to 240-volts in case we need to do any welding work,” Mr Hough said.
