TEESDALE Community Events will host their Winter Market this Saturday from 10am to 2pm.

People area are encouraged to swing by the Teesdale Community Hall to enjoy a local selection of stalls, cakes, tea and coffee, plants, jewellery and more.

Organisers, Sophie Graham and Mayan Rowling will be serving up baked potatoes with plenty of toppings. Their committee recently revitalised the market days to bring people together.

“We wanted to make connections. In Teesdale we have the Post office and General Store, but it’s hard to meet people when you’re rushing in and out,” Ms Rowling said.

“This is a way we can all get to know each other, and it’s cosy in the hall in winter.”

As a volunteer in the not-for-profit group, Ms Rowling is pleased to be able to support some “special” causes along the way.

This Saturday’s market will raise funds to find a cure for Mitochondrial disease. Local boy, Valentino Wilson lives with Mito and his mother, Jade is walking the 35km Bloody Long Walk this month to support the Mito Foundation’s work.

“Teesdale is like a village. It’s important that we all stand together and to have that village mentality. Many of us don’t have family nearby so we have to support each other,” Ms Rowling said.

The committee of seven welcomes new members. The next market is in October at Turtle Bend and will celebrate Teesdale CFA’s 70th anniversary.

This Wednesday, 14 August, the committee is also running an Easy Baking Workshop at the hall from 10am to 12pm.  Follow facebook.com/Teesdale.events/ to stay up to date with all that’s planned.
