SHE Oaks’ Jo Solomon is returning to the Maude Recreation Reserve’s tennis clubrooms to teach weekly beginner hatha yoga classes.

Ideal for those who’ve never tried yoga before, or those returning to the practice, all residents of any age, gender or body type are welcome.

“Over the year, I’ll be teaching the foundational poses and breathwork, which is called pranayama,” she said.

“Every class incorporates those elements, so people come out feeling like they’ve worked their body, they’re relaxed, they feel as if they are more connected with themselves, and they often say they sleep really well that night.

“Every pose can be modified so people can practice according to their skill level or where their body is at on the day, because week-by-week our bodies are in different spaces and have different energy levels.”

Within the clubrooms, there is more than enough room for four square metres per person, compliant with COVID safety regulations.

If the weather is nice, practice may move outside onto the reserve.

But what Ms Solomon enjoys most about her classes is the sense of community they generate.

“It’s one-to-one, personalised teaching, coaching and guiding, and it tends to become like a family, which is truly wonderful,” she said.

From Tuesday, 2 February Ms Solomon will host regular Tuesday evening sessions at 6.30pm, and from Thursday, 4 February, she will run regular Thursday morning classes at 10am.

Last year, Ms Solomon ran a few in-person classes at Maude, but had to facilitate the rest virtually due to the pandemic lockdown.
