Metro film fest locally accessible
FOR Ballarat movie buffs unable to make this year’s Melbourne International Film Festival, Regent Cinemas has them covered.
From Friday, 6 until Sunday, 8 September the picture house will host the MIFF Travelling Film Showcase, presenting a selection of local and international features and documentaries from this year’s Melbourne program.
The theatre has hosted the travelling event for four years. Stewart Moors, Regent Cinemas’ Director of Marketing, Sales and Finance said it’s been a great way to share niche movies with a regional market.
“We’ve found they always give us a really great selection. There’s broad categories over the one weekend which means there’s something for everyone,” he said.
This year, six films are accessible.
“Measure for Measure is a retake on a Shakespeare play, American Woman is a real insight for a female audience, Iron Fists and Kung Fu Kicks might attract more of a male audience, and H for Happiness is a really good family one,” Mr Moors said.
Below, a black comedy about Australia’s refugee detention system, and Vai, a celebration of Pacific Islander women’s resilience and creativity will also play.
“There’s a really great range,” he said.
“The Travelling Showcase allows us to tap into the Melbourne Film Festival on a local level, and to be able to be a part of that bigger event, it’s a no-brainer. It’s going to be great.”
