Mindful making
BRAINS will be sharp while hands move repetitively on Friday, 4 October at the Bannockburn Library’s Neural Knitwork session for seniors.
From 2pm to 4pm, the Shire’s older residents are invited to complete a knitting or crochet project, engage in meaningful conversations and mindfulness while problem solving.
Whether experienced knitters or not, everyone is welcome to make a neuron out of fabric or wool, which will be curated for an upcoming community art display.
Bannockburn Library’s Branch Librarian, Tracie Mauro said the event is a partnership between Geelong Seniors Festival and Geelong Regional Libraries.
“Neural Knitworks will provide a great opportunity for local people to enjoy a fun and social crafting experience, whilst contributing to a larger community project,” she said.
“This project is designed to be a collaborative and fun activity, which also helps to sharpen minds and develop hand-eye coordination and dexterity.”
Geelong Regional Libraries Board Member, Cr Nathan Hansford said the organisation presents a diverse program of learning activities.
“We provide many opportunities for people of all ages to develop new skills and build social connections,” he said. “I encourage members of the Golden Plains community to come along and get involved in the events taking place at the Bannockburn Library.”
Bookings can be made at grlc.vic.gov.au/whatson/neural-knitworks, at the library or by calling 4201 0500. Grandchildren are welcome.
