THREE Ballarat emergency food relief organisations have received State Government backing in the form of cash grants.

Just over $145,000 was split between Ballarat Seventh-day Adventist Church, Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre and Uniting Care Ballarat.

The Good Samaritan Centre Food Distribution Facility, run by the Seventh-day Adventists, was the biggest beneficiary, with $67,000 going towards building a powered and secure food storage shed.

Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre was allocated $35,000 to expand its Feed Local, Free Food Fridays program.

“As we wrap up 2020, our fabulous team of volunteers and learners with support from our community have produced nearly 7000 meals helping 875 families,” said Neighbourhood Centre CEO Vicki Coltman.

“This grant will help us in 2021 continue to support our clients and families who most need our help.”

Meanwhile, Uniting Care Ballarat’s Breezeway Kitchen will use just over $43,000 to buy new catering equipment to carry on that organisation’s work.

“Every Victorian deserves access to fresh and healthy food, which is why we’re boosting resources for community-based food relief services,” said Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle.
