More time to have a say on municipal child services
THE time period for public comment on Golden Plains Shire’s Municipal Early Years and Children’s Plan has been extended to Friday 7 February.
The four-year plan will focus on supporting families and children aged 0-12 in the community.
When the call for feedback went out in December last year, the shire said public consultation would include one-on-one sessions, a community survey, pop-ups, listening sessions and workshops.
CEO Shane Walden said at the time that it was important to understand the needs and priorities of families, carers and young children in the Shire.
“The municipal early years and children’s plan will serve as a strategic roadmap for council’s approach to early childhood development and family support over the next four years,” he said.
“This initiative underscores council’s commitment to creating an environment where our children can thrive, and families can access the support they need.”
The survey was initially to close to comment on 20 December, but the extension has been introduced to “collect more responses and ensure all voices are heard.”
Ninety Mile Consulting conducted a series of listening sessions with the Smythesdale Supported Playgroup, Cape Clear Primary School and Teesdale Kindergarten in November last year.
They were designed to hear directly from children and students about their challenges, needs, and aspirations, informing a plan that supports their growth and well-being.
The council and NMC hosted a community workshop on 9 December, which brought together a range of voices from the community and selected key stakeholders to discuss challenges facing children and families in Golden Plains.
It also contributed to designing solutions that address the needs of children.
