Mothers’ day service remembers the grieving

May 8, 2019 BY

BALLARAT is invited to attend a service this Mothers’ Day at the Garden of the Grieving Mother, to remember special mums who have passed or were bereaved as a result of military conflicts.

The event at 2pm on Sunday, 12 May is coordinated by the Arch of Victory – Avenue of Honour Committee.

President, Garry Snowden said the service won’t be long, but it will include poignant readings.

“People are welcome to leave flowers at the statue at any time,” he said.

Although a service wasn’t held last year, an overwhelming 100 floral tributes were left at monument on Mothers’ Day.

“Throughout the day, people arrived to place a floral tribute and reflect on a special mother or grandmother,” Mr Snowden said.

“It was wonderful to see some beautiful wreaths left there, but it was also great to see many children with a small bunch of flowers from their home garden.

“It’s not what the tribute is that is important, it is what it means to those who left it there.”

The Garden of the Grieving Mother is adjacent to the Arch of Victory on Sturt Street West.
