NEW mums looking to get back into low-impact exercise six weeks or more after the birth of their baby are encouraged to head to weekly classes at the YMCA’s stadium.

A Mums and Bubs fitness class runs every Thursday morning from 9.15am at the YMCA Bannockburn Recreation Centre on Milton Street.

Acting centre coordinator Eliza Burge said it’s all about returning to movement in a gentle and positive way.

“Mums and Bubs is a way for women to get back into exercise, socialise with other mums in the local community, make friends, and bring along their children,” she said

“Our aim is to slowly build up their fitness and strength in a safe, nurturing, and welcoming environment, with a qualified coach leading strengthening exercises using light weights, like dumbbells, and exercise balls on the soft low-impact flooring.

“It’s designed as a post-natal fitness class, but the children that come along with their mums can be up to about five years’ old.”

Ms Burge said plenty of soft play equipment is available to keep kids engaged if they are a little older and more active.

“It’s a very casual class, so the mums don’t have to commit to it long term, and it fits in with the morning school drop-off,” she said.

“Thursday mornings have a great atmosphere with our rookie sports on the other court, and a lot of young kids around. It’s a really relaxed, warm and welcoming environment.”

Classes are $10 per session, or $90 for a 10-class pass. YMCA Bannockburn is located on Milton Street opposite Bannockburn P-12 College.
