BANNOCKBURN’S new-look skate park is ready for action.
Member for Geelong Christine Couzens and Golden Plains Shire councillor Gavin Gamble performed the ceremonial opening earlier this month.
The upgrade project included installation of a multipurpose skate bowl, a community space including street furniture, a barbecue, a shelter, lighting and connecting paths.
Known as the Bannockburn Skate Park Upgrade, the overhaul cost almost $1 million with the State Government contributing $805,000 and the Shire $192,881.
“Bannockburn is a town experiencing rapid growth, particularly amongst its young population,” Cr Gamble said.
“This incredible facility is part of our ongoing commitment to provide top-quality recreational facilities for the community.
“This is a fun, safe hub for our community and with features like the brand-new state-of-the-art skate bowl, it’s sure to be a hit with locals and visitors.”

Ms Couzens said the upgraded skate park is a great space for young people from Bannockburn and the surrounding area.
“This is a recreational space that local families can enjoy, and deserve to have in their community,” she said.
The government money came from the Growing Suburbs Fund, which provides grants to councils for important local infrastructure – primarily in Melbourne’s fastest-growing suburbs.
The Growing Suburbs Fund has so far supported 360 projects – including five in the Golden Plains Shire – representing a total infrastructure allocation of $1.3 billion.
The State claims fund projects have also created more than 11,300 jobs.
“Our fastest-growing areas need extra support, which is why we’re making sure grants are going where they’ll have a significant and positive impact,” said Minister for Development Victoria and Precincts, Harriet Shing.
