NEW managing director has been appointed at Barwon Water, with Shaun Cumming to fill the position on a five-year contract following a unanimous decision by the utility’s board.

Mr Cumming has been interim managing director since June, and part of Barwon Water’s executive leadership team for six years.

“I look forward to building on the work we’ve already done to broaden our mindset from water utility to enabler of regional prosperity across cultural, social, environmental, and economic dimensions,” he said.

“Barwon Water is uniquely placed to support a thriving community, deliver a sustainable water future, and help drive new opportunities in the circular economy.

“I’ll focus on nurturing relationships, ensuring we deliver value in partnership with our customers, community, traditional owners, and stakeholders, and continue to innovate for positive change.”

Barwon Water board chair Jo Plummer said she and the entire oversight committee were delighted with Mr Cumming’s vision, leadership, and passion.

“Shaun has made a significant contribution towards our Strategy 2030 goals through his extensive experience in operations, construction, business development, program delivery and transformation over a 25-year career in the water industry,” Ms Plummer said.

“Under Shaun’s leadership, our employees’ care, skill and dedication to the delivery of Strategy 2030 will ensure we progress our commitments to our community and customers.”
