New shire council elected

GOLDEN Plains Shire’s seven councillors for the next four years have been elected.

The Victorian Electoral Commission has reported Lachlan Glen, Sarah Hayden, Des Phelan, Brett Cunningham, Emma Robbins, Helena Kirby, and Owen Sharkey have been elected by ratepayers.

Mr Glen, Ms Hayden and Ms Robbins are new to the chamber, while immediate past mayor Mr Cunningham returns alongside Ms Kirby and Mr Sharkey.

After a break from council service last term, former long-time Golden Plains councillor Mr Phelan is back at the table.

As of 5pm on Friday 8 November, Mr Glen had received the most first preference votes; 2932 representing 18.9 per cent.

Ms Hayden followed in the first preference vote count with 2297 representing 14.81 per cent.
