SEVEN-year-old, William Shorter’s became much more mobile on Saturday when Variety Children’s Charity and the Ballarat Swap Meet committee donated a new mobility scooter to his family.

William and his two brothers, Max and Hudson live with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a muscle weakening condition resulting from a missing protein, dystrophin.

This is the family’s second scooter. Mum, Belinda Shorter was extremely grateful that William will be able to rest when he needs to and keep on the move.

“We’re very, very lucky to receive it,” she said.

“It changes the whole way we do things.

“The boys can walk around, but they get very tired very easily. With the scooters, we can take the boys out in the community, so they’re not stuck at home.”
