Nurses to come together for 90 years of service
BALLARAT Base Hospital Trained Nurses League is celebrating its 90th Annual General Meeting and reunion dinner this weekend.
First founded in 1928, the League has held annual reunions ever since, along with quarterly meetings.
Activities of the group include honouring the wartime effort of nurses by laying wreaths on Remembrance Day, Anzac Day and at the Nurses Memorial Centre in Melbourne.
The League continues to support the Hospital in community service, with donations to the BHS Foundation and Good Samaritan Fund each year.
It offers two scholarships to further the training of nurses. The Jean Finlayson Scholarship for General Nursing and the Joanne Gilbert Scholarship for Maternal and Child Health.
The League has published two books written by Winsome Menadue – First Fifty Years of the League 1929-1978 and Nurse Training Registers 1888-1978, along with a DVD produced by Trina Jones, containing photos and memorabilia of the training schools and hospital.
Both the planned events take place on Saturday, 3 November.
The AGM is set for the Gardiner Pittard Foyer at the Ballarat Hospital at 2.15pm while the dinner takes place at Ballarat Gold Club from 6.30pm.
