Online workshop a call to action

March 2, 2022 BY

FREE online arts workshops are set to return in February and March, offering creatives the chance to strengthen their business practices.

After running in late August ArtsACTION will be available for a second round of classes aimed at teaching creatives online presentation, and marketing techniques.

Developed by non-profit organisation Jumpleads, director Karen Corr said the program’s return offers an opportunity for people who missed out the first time.

“It’s a bit of commitment to do these six weeks round of workshops, and with COVID happening, not everyone got to be a part of it,” she said.

“Rather than just a top-down class of just an expert talking to you, we make it very interactive. We get them to think about questions where relevant to themselves.

“We had great participation from Ballarat’s creatives. We had a number of people, some of whom even went on to form groups together.”

The program aims to foster a supportive community that encourages open-mindedness and new approaches to creative approaches.

ArtsACTION is open for creatives of any skill level, and Ms Corr said course serves as a call to action to get artists to act seriously on the business side of their work.

“Anyone can go online and research what they can do, but not many people get the chance to actually get that motivation,” she said.

“A lot of the challenges that we hear from creatives is that it’s too overwhelming, or they don’t know where to start.

“This program inspires them to get on track and motivated. If they don’t have that framework to begin, then it’s much harder to actually do it.”

The hour and a half workshop will run each Wednesday at 10.30am via Zoom until February to 30 March.
