THE Golden Plains Shire Council is inviting expressions of interest from local sporting clubs, recreation organisations and community groups to take part in the Active Golden Plains Sport and Rec Fest that’s planned for early in the new year.
An initiative of the Active Golden Plains program, the Rec Fest aims to generate awareness of activities available in Golden Plains and empower residents to explore a variety of physical and recreational activities offered by local clubs, groups and providers.
A council spokesperson said it offers an opportunity for local clubs and groups to host a demonstration, interactive activity, ‘come and try’ session, display or other activity for residents of all ages, genders and abilities across the shire.
The Rec Fest will be held across two different locations on Saturday 21 February from 10am to 1pm at the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve in Smythesdale, and also on Saturday 14 March from 10am to 1pm at the Recreation Precinct Soccer Pavilion in Bannockburn.
Sporting clubs and groups can participate in one or both days and Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Owen Sharkey encouraged local groups to submit their EOI to participate in the event.
“We’re seeking EOIs from groups who want to be part of this fantastic community program that is part of our highly successful Active Golden Plains initiative,” Cr Sharkey said.
“From football, golf, bowls, and tennis, to dance, scouts, martial arts, gyms, walking groups, and more – there’s plenty of ways to showcase the wide range of sport, recreation and community activity options available across the Shire.
“This is the perfect opportunity for local organisations to showcase and recruit new participants and volunteers.”
EOI are being received up until 5pm, Friday 31 October and can be submitted at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations.
Hard copies will also be available at the council’s customer hubs in Bannockburn and Smythesdale.
Following the EOI period, the council will evaluate submissions and successful clubs and groups will be notified.
