Organisers seek to build community event
WITH a myriad of roles to fill when managing any event, organisers behind a free community day in the region’s east are putting the callout for anyone to help out.
The upcoming event, set to be held at Bunjil’s Lookout in November, is being led by five key people from the Maude, Steiglitz, She Oaks Community Group.
Organiser, Mandy Humpage, said anyone is welcome that can lend something to the event.
“It’s a small group so we’d like to get anyone who wants to help out like volunteers and stallholders,” she said.
“As long as their activities that will work in the location we’ve got, we’re happy to have it. We’re not zeroing in on anything in particular.
“We’ve got about 15 stalls at the minute. We’ve got Treat Bakeshop from She Oaks, Sugar and Slice from Bannockburn, Landcare, CFA, things like that.”
The event has been funded through a grant from Golden Plains Shire, who provided the money for a similar free event last year.
Ms Humpage said organisers are looking to expand on what the previous event offered.
“For the other one, we did a lot of old-fashioned games like the three-legged, and egg-and-spoon races, gumboot tossing. There were probably a couple hundred people at that,” she said.
“We’re able to go bigger this time and go broader with more funding.
“It’s about supporting local families and businesses, giving them that exposure, and bringing the community to have that connectedness and mental health benefit.”
The free community event is set to take place on Sunday 12 November and to express interest in becoming involved, call Ms Humpage on 0417 056 656.
