AFTER taking part in interstate charity event Riverina Redneck Rally last year, two Lethbridge men are getting ready to hit the road once more in anticipation for its return.

Leigh Murphy and Steve Wilcox’s second year participating in the event will see their team, called Sent Pack’n, travel from Trundle to Temora in New South Wales over five days to raise funds for family cancer charity Country Hope.

The pair raised $60,000 last year, and Mr Murphy said he’s aiming to reach that number again.

“Before we’d raised that, the record by any team was $50,000 and this has been running since 2017,” he said.

“There’s usually about 70 or 80 cars involved with two people in each. It’s not a race or anything, just a casual group drive where we fundraise the whole time.

“There’s 70s, 80s, superhero dress-up days, and we sometimes do an auction or raffle or event at each community we stop in.”

Alongside a trivia night at the Lethbridge Recreation Reserve, the Sent Pack’n duo are asking for car battery and can donations to recycle for funds.

This year, the pair have recruited their partners Sim Rumlera and Jacqui Wilcox to join in the fundraising effort and the foursome are combining their donations through their own team called Double Bubble.

With Sent Pack’n’s 1996 Holden Commodore ute already rally ready, Double Bubble are kitting out their Holden Adventurer to join in the fun.

Ms Rumlera said it’s “exciting” to get involved.

“I’m really looking forward to getting the car on the road, meeting new people and spending time with the boys,” she said.

“It’s all going to a great, worthy cause as well. We’ve still got a couple months to go on our car, from start to finish.”

The Lethbridge teams have currently raised more than $30,000 with donations open until the rally’s scheduled start on Friday, 31 March and donations can be sent to either team’s MyCause page.
