Perfect place for a panoramic picnic
WITH sweeping views and an impressive sense of height, the historic Nimons Bridge already makes a striking picnic spot, and it’s about to be put to exactly that use.
The Woady Yaloak Historical Society is set to once again host its Picnic on Nimons Bridge event, inviting guests to dine atop the landmark on Sunday 15 February.
Funds raised from the panoramic picnic will go towards the society’s ongoing restoration work at the Smythesdale Historic Precinct, treasurer Lin Hocking-Turnbull said.
The long-time Smythesdale local said the inaugural event atop the 20m-high landmark last year exceeded expectations.

“We’ve already doubled our bookings and put on an extra small bus,” Ms Hocking-Turnbull said.
“It’s just something a bit different and it’s a great chance to showcase the bridge and the history behind it, and also to showcase our little area.
“Some people who live here don’t even know the bridge is here.”
Getting started at 10am, the day offers far more than just a picnic.
The experience includes a guided bus tour highlighting local history, live music and return bus transport from Delacombe, Haddon and Smythesdale.

The picnic itself will feature local produce enjoyed high above the Woady Yaloak River valley.
“We’ll have a complimentary drink and canapes at the Linton Railway Hotel then tour through Linton, Happy Valley, Piggoreet and Newtown, arriving at Nimons Bridge for the picnic on top of the bridge overlooking the Woady Yaloak River Valley,” Ms Hocking-Turnbull said.
“We finish up the day with a short bus trip back to the historic Court House Hotel in Smythesdale for live music.”
