RESIDENTS from Smythesdale and surrounding areas can share their opinions on the future of Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve.

Golden Plains Shire is developing a master plan to improve the reserve and help it meet the evolving needs of the growing community.

The plan will include a shared vision for the reserve created by input from key stakeholders and the community, and it will guide future development and identifying funding opportunities.

Woady Yaloak Football Netball Club President Adam Liversage said he is thankful for funding for two new multi-lined netball and tennis courts.

He said he would also like to see further upgrades to the road surface around the oval and new change rooms including gender neutral spaces.

“The facility is in desperate need of the track or road around the facility being upgraded as we are getting potholes at the entrance of the facility,” he said.

“We do need a safe space in front of the pavilion, we need that cornered off… so cars can’t access that particular area.

“The pavilion itself is a bit outdated, and we’d love to see the football changerooms have a bit of an overhaul.”

Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Sarah Hayden said it was critical for the community to share their opinions.

“Council is committed to creating a reserve that meets the needs of all users,” she said.

“The master plan will consider a range of factors including broader community demand, population forecasts and council’s priorities for sport and recreation.

“Your input is valuable and will greatly assist us in identifying the priorities for the reserve.”

Feedback is open until Tuesday 20 March and can be completed on the Golden Plains Shire website or at customer hubs in Bannockburn and Smythesdale.

Following consultation, a draft plan will be developed which is expected to be presented for further feedback in mid-2025.
