Polka down to the bush dance

IF you enjoy pulling on your dancing shoes, then the next event from the Cape Clear, Illabarook and Rokewood Junction Community Committee is for you.

People of all ages, from near and far, are invited to a Valentine’s Day Family Bush Dance on Saturday, 11 February at the Cape Clear Recreation Reserve.

Organiser Evelyn Cannon said the committee’s aim is to deliver a fun, easy-going and accessible evening.

“We’ve got a local band coming, Duck N Weave, and a caller will be teaching dances and performing them, so people don’t need to know the steps to come along, they’ll learn them on the night,” she said.

“There will be plenty of room for people to sit if they’re not dancing, and we’ve got a craft table for the kids to keep them entertained if they’re not up and dancing.

“We’ll have some light refreshments and a sausage sizzle.”

Ms Cannon said locals requested an event of this kind at the Cape Clear Recreation Reserve bonfire last June.

“We had a handful of people from the community, and outside that came, who said they love this style of music and would love to have a bush dance.

“We’re really responding to the community’s wants, and we encourage people to give feedback about more events they would like to see,” she said.

The event will run from 5pm to 8pm, and entry is by gold coin donation. There’ll also be a silent auction, with all funds going back to the committee.
