STAFF and students at Lethbridge Primary School are set to celebrate a milestone anniversary later in the year.

Preparations are underway for the school to soon acknowledge its 150th anniversary, and acting principal Jarod Bacon said the occasion is sure to be momentous.

“I know 150 years is a big celebration for the community,” he said. “There are things like the change in location about 10 years ago.

“The comments from families are they’re very lucky to have such a great school in the area. There aren’t many schools in this area so to have a place parents can confidently send their kids is great.

“The fact we can celebrate the anniversary with the community and share in the changes in education over the last 150 years with the community is a good opportunity to get together.”

The school community is set to ring in the milestone around the beginning of term four with an event on Friday 11 October.

Mr Bacon said celebrations are still in the planning stages and that community involvement will be welcomed.

“We’ll definitely have some sort of student performance hopefully with involvement from Bannockburn P12, and some food trucks and market stalls,” he said.

“There’s a couple on the planning committee with past connections to the school and we’re trying to get as many local organisations with the CFA and cricket club involved.

“We also have a space where we’re looking at getting a photo wall and memorabilia display together.”

The institution was established in 1874, and began with 156 students at its original bluestone building at 2846 Midland Highway.

Lethbridge Primary currently has 114 students.
