FIFTY-six Victorian printmakers are leaving an ink mark as part of an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.

Curated by artist Rona Green, Whereabouts: Printmakers Respond opened last week and includes the works of creatives of varying styles unpacking the idea of place and connecting to where they live.
“It is an absolute delight to see Whereabouts come to fruition thanks to the support of the Art Gallery of Ballarat,” she said.

“Each exhibiting artist has thoughtfully created a wonderful print exploring the theme of whereabouts for the public to contemplate and enjoy.

“All the works combine to form an excellent showcase of the craft of printmaking and its many possibilities.”

Local printmakers James Pasakos and Deborah Klein are part of the exhibition.

Gallery director Louise Tegart said she was delighted with the exhibition.

“Printmaking is a very broad area of artistic practice, taking in multiple areas of specialisation, from linocut to screen printing and photopolymer work,” she said.

“Bringing such a diversity of work together in the one exhibition really celebrates the possibilities of printmaking and reveals the wealth of talent that we have around us.

“Rona Green has assembled a comprehensive list of some of Victoria’s most exciting and best regarded printmakers working in many different forms and the artists have all responded to the common theme in their own way.”

Green is not only a printmaker, but a painter, drawer, and sculptor who has won the Silk Cut Award Grand Prize, Swan Hill Print Award, and Geelong Print Prize.

She is based in the Dandenong Ranges and has work in the National Gallery of Australia’s collection.
