RETIREE’S in the region are being invited to attend the first meeting of the Bannockburn and District Probus Club.

After the old Probus Club in the region shut down, an effort is being made to bring back the initiative, which provides opportunities for socialising.

“We did have a Probus club in Bannockburn but it closed a few years ago,” Rotary District Probus chair Margaret Robinson said.

“We looked at the census and that’s how we identified it would be good to have

one there.

“The idea is to have a monthly meeting and make new friends.”

Ms Robinson said it was particularly important for retirees to have social opportunities as they no longer see people at work.

“When you leave work, you sometimes feel as though you’ve lost those connections,” she said.

“At Probus, they have a meeting, they listen to guest speakers, and the members work out what activities they would like to have.”

The interest meeting will be held at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre on Tuesday, April 9 from 9.30am.
