MINISTER for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan this week announced the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Gillies Road and Kennedy Road Mount Rowan.

Funding of $1 million from the first round of the state government’s $100 million Fixing Country Roads Program will pay for the road works improving safety and traffic flow for locals said Mr Donnellan.

The City of Ballarat is also contributing $500,000 towards the capital upgrade of the intersection which has to be completed by June 2019.

Mayor Samantha McIntosh said the intersection, close to the Ballarat Racecourse, is very busy on race days so motorists will benefit from a safer roundabout.

“Racing is approximately the sixth biggest employer in the state providing so many marvellous opportunities,” said Mr Donellan.

Ms McIntosh said the number of accidents at the intersection has been a concern of the council for some time therefore government support for the upgrade to a roundabout is well received.
