Recycled glass repairs freeway

March 27, 2019 BY

THE 10,000 drivers travelling along the Western Freeway through Pykes Creek each day will soon experience a safer and smoother journey.

About 540 tonnes of fine crushed glass is being mixed with traditional road materials to repair 2.4 kms of the Ballaratbound thoroughfare.

Member for Buninyong, Michaela Settle said it’s a win-win.

“Projects like this are improving our roads while supporting a more sustainable future by using recycled materials,” she said.

The road is one of Victoria’s busiest transport and freight passages. Reduced driving speeds are in place until completion, expected in April.

The state government has allocated $333 million to upgrading and repairing regional roads.
