Rosellas make a pitch for juniors
LETHBRIDGE Cricket Club is looking to build their junior ranks for the upcoming season.
As a result, the club is putting on a couple of come and try days soon, with sessions set for Sunday, 28 August and Thursday, 1 September at the Lethbridge Recreation Reserve.
Club secretary Damien Harwood said days are a great opportunity for kids to get involved in the club known as the Rosellas.
“We’re inviting all juniors and families to come along, learn about the club and try to fill as many teams as we can,” he said.
“We’ll be in the nets with cricket gear available, we’ll have batting and bowling practice. It’s showing them all aspects of the game while giving them some fun.
“We’re always hopeful that we’ll fill every team each year, and we’ll do our best to do so.”
The club is looking for at least 50 youngsters to form a girls team, under 11s, 13s, 15s and 17s squads as well as younger cricketers for the Woolworths Blast.
This year junior league is expected to start in October, and Harwood said the come and try days will serve an additional purpose.
“We’re also looking for coaches for these age groups, so this is always an opportunity for us to speak to parents and friends to see if they’re interested,” he said.
“I look forward to meeting the new kids though because they’re the future of the club and building strong junior programs is how you build a strong club.”
Sunday’s session will run from 1pm to 3pm for juniors with 3pm to 5pm for the under 17s, while Thursday’s session will run from 4.30pm to 6pm.
