WITH the colder climate here, staff at Golden Plains Shire are encouraging young people to take part in a range of events to do throughout winter.

The municipality led program is set to deliver free activities for young people aged between 12 and 25 years old which will run throughout the winter school holidays into early July.

Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the events will be a great way for young people to entertain themselves.

“Council’s school holiday activities are an excellent opportunity for Golden Plains youth to connect, gain new skills and make friends in a safe, inclusive and fun environment,” he said.

“Council is committed to creating new and enjoyable experiences for Golden Plains youth over the holiday periods to meet the needs and interests of young people, whilst providing platforms to learn new skills.

“There are activities held across the Shire, and transport options are available, to encourage as many young people as possible to get involved.”

The activities will be happening between Tuesday 27 June until Thursday 6 July and are aimed at catering to young people’s different interests.

The first day will entail a movie afternoon at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre from 2pm to 6pm followed by a robotics event at Corindhap Memorial Hall from 1pm to 3pm the following day.

An arts group event will take place on Thursday 29 June from 10am to 12pm at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre after which a tie dying activity will run at Smythesdale’s The Well the following Tuesday from 1pm to 3pm.

The program will end with a zine making workshop at Inverleigh Bowls Club on Wednesday 5 July from 1pm to 3pm before another arts group session in Bannockburn from 10am to 12pm the next day.
