School starts past pupil program
STAFF at Woodmans Hill Secondary College are getting in touch with the past and reaching out to former students as part of a newly-established alumni program.
Collaborating with non-profit past student service Ourschool, the initiative is being led by the school’s alumni and marketing coordinator Erin Mawdsley, who said she’s excited to delve into the institution’s history.
“We’ve had quite a few of our earlier students contact us over the past few years wanting tours or to come and talk with the students,” she said.
“They’re holding their own reunions, so we wanted to connect back to that and help build the community.
“We’ll be starting with Ourschool from term three next week.”
A Facebook page has been created for the program while Ourschool will be on-hand to help contact alumni who will be invited back to give talks to current students.
Ms Mawdsley said the program will be a benefit for their current attendees as well.
“We’re hoping it will create some opportunities for them to be provided work experience and things like that,” she said.
“We’ve had some our earliest students offer to donate for some scholarships or help pay for supplies for students in hardship.”
“Our 70th will be in 2025 so we’ve even got alumni offering to go to Melbourne for us to look through our archives to start our database. We’ve got a shipping containerful of paper-copies.”
Past students wanting to take part in the alumni program can do so by contacting the school at [email protected] or on 5336 7264.
