LATER this month an array of second-hand treasures will be available at Teesdale Community Hall.

The annual pop-up oppie market is organised by the CWA Native Hut branch with money raised set to go to local charities.

The market will have a range of goods on offer such as clothing, books, shoes, handbags, linen, toys and kitchenware.

Last year’s event raised $1000 for Wombat’s Wish, an organisation which supports children who have lost one or both parents.

“It’s our main fundraiser for the year and we collect preloved things from

family and friends, display them in the hall, and charge minimal prices because we want to sell as much as possible,” said president Shirley Wild.

“What we don’t sell we then donate to other organisations that can then recycle it.”

Devonshire Tea will also be on offer and Ms Wild said this has become a much-loved aspect of the market.

“A couple of our ladies are known for their lovely scones,” said Ms Wild.

“One lady said to me last year ‘I came down and got a few things and then I saw someone having Devonshire Tea and I ended up talking to people for about two hours.’

“So the Devonshire Tea part has become quite social.”

This year the group is celebrating its 10th birthday and Ms Wild encouraged any interested community members to get involved with the club by calling her on

0447 873 863.

“We are a small group of 14 members, but we all contribute in some way,” she said.

“We do have a couple of celebrations coming up and we plan to hold something for former members.”

The market will be Saturday 25 May from 10am until 3pm at Teesdale Community

Hall.
