Sharing the love of knots
LEARN the art of macrame this month at a session held by Anita Shaw at Haddon Community Learning Centre.
Shaw, who is based in Geelong, regularly hosts workshops around the region sharing her love of knots.
“Macrame goes back to the Middle Ages but it was huge in the 70s,” she said.
“It’s a form of tying knots with cord in a decorative way and there’s quite a few styles of knots which each have their own names.
“I hold workshops regularly at the Lightbox at Torquay which is an art and craft studio space.”
In this workshop, participants will be taught how to use two advanced knots to make either a wall hanging or plant pot holder.
“In the past I’ve done standard sorts of knots so this time it’s a bit more of a challenge,” said Shaw.
“It will be terrific to do that.”
Shaw has a history of hosting sessions in the Golden Plains Shire, beginning at Meredith four years ago and now at Haddon.
She said she enjoys the country atmosphere and social aspect of the classes.
“I love going to country community centres and sharing my love of knots,” she said.
“The workshops are really lovely and social, with really lovely chats even though people might not know each other.
“It’s good for mental health I have found.”
The workshop will be held Friday 31 May and to book, call the Haddon Community Learning Centre.
