JO Wilson is the new director of community, planning and growth at Golden Plains Shire.

Ms Wilson has previous experience in senior local government roles and the not-for-profit community sector with insights into growth area planning, the importance of community resilience, liveability and early provision of services in a growth environment.

She has recently been the acting director of resilient and connected communities at Banyule City Council and spent six years working at Mitchell Shire Council, where she was acting director of advocacy and community services for 18 months.

At Mitchell Shire Council, Ms Wilson navigated challenges including increased service demand within funding constraints, response and recovery after natural emergencies, climate change adaptation, and the increased cost of living.

“Jo’s breadth of experience, leadership style, variety of strategic work she oversaw, collegiate approach and presentation skills is impressive,” Golden Plains Shire CEO Shane Walden said.

“She is also mindful of the responsibility for preserving rural character and respecting the lifestyle and amenity of the Shire’s townships.

“We look forward to welcoming Jo to Golden Plains Shire, as she will help us develop and deliver vital community services with a continued focus on strategic planning and growth.”

Ms Wilson will start work on Tuesday 28 January.
