THE Golden Plains Shire youth Battle of the Bands planned for the Bannockburn Cultural Centre this month has been cancelled for 2021.

Even if regional Victoria emerges from lockdown, the event driven by young people will not be able to go ahead as a venue with a large COVID-safe capacity unavailable.

Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Helena Kirby said young musicians, whether a solo artist or in a band, are encouraged to keep in touch with council’s Youth Development Team, to keep abreast of any future gig opportunities.

“Organising events during a pandemic can be incredibly difficult and it’s disappointing that despite the extensive efforts of council and its Youth Development Team, the 2021 Battle of the Bands will not go ahead,” Cr Kirby said.

“Council is committed to supporting the creative endeavours of young people in our Shire and looks forward to working with our young performers to find future opportunities for them to share their diverse talents.

“While Battle of the Bands has been cancelled, council is pleased to be providing young people with consistency and opportunities to connect during lockdown with a range of weekly online activities.”
