Shire gets budget boost
LAST week’s Federal budget had a bit of positive news for Golden Plains Shire with more money announced for infrastructure works.
As part of the national financial plan, the municipality will receive $2.6 million under the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
The money comes in addition to the nearly $2.85 million the Shire received as part of the first two rounds of the initiative.
“Advocating for investment in our communities is a top priority of council and we are thrilled this has resulted in more than $5 million for local roads and community infrastructure under this program,” said mayor Cr Helena Kirby.
While it’s not clear what the new money will be used on, capital works under the previous funding rounds have gone to a range of projects.
They include running a waterline to the Maude Recreation Reserve and lookout, playgrounds in Haddon, Linton, Garibaldi, Enfield and Dereel, upgrades to Bannockburn Skate Park, and road and bridge works across the Shire.
“The $2.8 million we received in the first two rounds… has allowed council to fast track the delivery of five playground upgrades, two new bridges, road improvements in 10 towns, a new youth hub for the Shire and significant upgrades at three popular sport and active recreation locations,” Cr Kirby said.
“We look forward to adding to this list with the latest $2.6 million commitment.”
