ENHANCED support is available across the Golden Plains Shire for breastfeeding mothers and families thanks to $5000 in funding from the Victorian Local Government Partnership with VicHealth.
Existing breastfeeding spaces at the Bannockburn Family Services Centre, Bannockburn Cultural Centre, Meredith Community Centre and The Well in Smythesdale have been improved.
Each location has a comfortable and private space for mothers and families.
Free breastfeeding support with a maternal and child health nurse in attendance is also being offered on Monday 21 July at The Well at Smythesdale from 10am to noon, and Meredith Community Centre from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
Support will also be available at Bannockburn Cultural Centre on Thursday 24 July from 10am until noon.
Attendees will also receive a free breastfeeding starter pack.
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Owen Sharkey encouraged people to utilise the facilities and attend a drop-in session.
“We are pleased to be able to provide this fantastic initiative along with our upgraded breastfeeding-friendly spaces in Bannockburn, Meredith and Smythesdale,” Cr Sharkey said.
“Our friendly maternal child health nurses will be on site at the drop-in sessions to assist with breastfeeding support.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for new mothers and families to see the new spaces and receive advice and encouragement when breastfeeding.”
