KNOW an exceptional person working to better their community within the Golden Plains Shire?

Well, municipal staff are now accepting nominations for the annual Community Awards to take place in early 2024.

The awards aim to celebrate and highlight individuals and groups that make the region an even better place to live.

Award categories include Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, and Community Impact Award for an organisation, team, project, or event.

“Every single day we see the Golden Plains community working hard to not only realise their own goals, but also help make other people’s lives better through their tireless community work, volunteering, community events and projects,” said mayor Cr Brett Cunningham.

“Submitting a nomination for the Golden Plains Shire Council Community Awards is essential to ensure we recognise these remarkable people and groups, while taking the opportunity to celebrate their valuable contributions in our thriving local communities.

“Council encourages all residents to take some time and think about those who have contributed so much to Golden Plains Shire in 2023 and submit a nomination to recognise their achievements and thank them for their work.”

Those eligible to be nominated may be involved in areas like community service, sport, cultural and arts projects, environmental initiatives, and the development of business and the local economy.

Nominations are open until 5pm on Monday 20 November and an awards ceremony will be held in early 2024 as a public community celebration.
