Show to highlight creativity

EVERYONE is invited to show off their artistic side when the Ballarat Times 2023 Ballarat Show returns next month as part of the event’s arts and craft offering.

With entries opened for people to display their visual works, crafts, cookery, and floral arrangements, the Show’s arts and craft committee president Liz Molesworth said the section is all about getting the community involved.

“I think we’ve got more than 100 entries already,” she said. “A few of us have gone around to a handful of schools and got a good response.

“Participation’s the main thing and getting people to the Show.”

Prior to the Show’s return from Friday 10 until Sunday 12 November, about a dozen judges will pick the top works on the Wednesday, with the best flower entries to be decided the next day.

All entries will then go on display at the Showgrounds’ Harry Smith Pavilion, with many category winners to advance into the Midlands Group Competition next year.

Ms Molesworth said she always enjoys seeing the creativity on display.

“I like to see everyone participating,” she said. “I just think there’s a lot of talented people here and some who might not normally want to display so this is an opportunity for that.

“Because it’s the Year of the Rabbit we have a theme of rabbits for the children’s colouring competition.

“The CWA will be displaying anything to do with leaves for an autumn theme because they do anything from cooking to embroidery so they can use their imaginations.”
