POP some popcorn and freeze the choc-tops because it’s time for an afternoon at the movies.

Families are invited to two free community film screenings next month to be presented by Golden Plains Shire staff.

Lilo and Stitch, and The Lego Movie are set to be shown at Cape Clear and Bannockburn respectively, on Saturdays 17 and 24 February.

Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the film afternoons are set to be a lot of fun while bringing neighbours together.

“We extend a warm invitation to families and community members across the Shire to come along with your family, grab some popcorn, and settle in for an afternoon full of entertainment you won’t want to miss,” he said.

“These events play a crucial role in fostering pro-social behaviour and positive community engagement among young people, their families and friends.”

The events are funded as part of the State Government’s Crime Prevention Strategy program, and various food trucks are booked to be on site alongside the film, as well as live musicians, a petting zoo, and a face painter.

Lilo and Stitch will be screened on Saturday 17 February from 1pm to 5pm at Cape Clear Recreation Hall on Recreation Road in Cape Clear.

The Lego Movie will be up on the big screen on Saturday 24 February from 1pm to 5pm at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre at 27 High Street in Bannockburn.
