THE next time you hit the ramps at Bannockburn Skate Park, you may notice it looks a little different.

The park, located at 3 Moore Street, closed on Wednesday to allow for work to begin on its upgrade project and is expected to open in early November.

New lighting and artwork will be unveiled towards the end of the year, with the Golden Plains Shire hoping the new look will “rejuvenate” the facility.

The expansion and upgrade will also address community safety and security concerns and modernise its accessibility for use by residents of all ages and abilities.

New quarter pipes, ramps, boxes and rails will be installed and other features such as a shelter, seating, bike racks, lockers and a drinking fountain also make up the upgrade.

Young Shire residents were asked for their input on the features and layout of the design earlier this year, with municipal staff and workers from the sites builder, Convic listening to feedback and answering questions.

The Bannockburn Skate Park upgrade is expected to cost $450,000 and has been funded by a $250,000 Community Safety Infrastructure grant from the State Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program and a grant of just under $200,000 from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
