Smythesdale courts to transform
WOADY Yaloak Recreation Reserve at Smythesdale is set to receive major upgrades.
The works worth $900,000 will include a redevelopment of two multi-lined netball and tennis courts with new fencing, shelters, and spectator seating.
The State’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is covering $700,000, and the Golden Plains Shire will cover the rest.
“We have some of the highest numbers of netball players across our region in all of Victoria and really, they deserve world class facilities and great courts so more young girls can get active in sport and more people can feel included,” said Member for Ripon, Martha Haylett.
“It’s not just about fitness, it’s about community connection and everyone really forming a big family and having a great time every weekend, every season.”
Woady Yaloak Football Netball Club president Adam Liversage said families are excited.
“The fact we are a new and up and coming club, we knew coming into the facility there was some work still to be done,” he said.
“The concern was in fact the state of the netball courts, the lack of spectator seating, the lack of shelter on those particular courts.”
The old courts were cracked and dangerous, and Mr Liversage said the upgrades will attract more players to the organisation.
“Our club prides itself on inclusiveness, and the fact we are going to get A-grade facilities out at Woady, it does attract people,” he said.
“It makes our club in general a more attractive place.
“The club would like to thank Martha Haylett for showing interest in what we’re doing out at Woady.
“Martha has been a great support of our club for quite a period of time now.”
