Splash some cash, donate water

February 20, 2019 BY

NGIYAMPAA Barkindji woman and Ballarat resident, Darlene Rumler is grateful, having received more water donations to take to people in desperate need of water as a result of the Darling River crisis.

“Woolworths across Ballarat donated 100 slabs and a fair few were collected at Ballarat City Caravans,” Mrs Rumler said. “It’s probably been 1500 litres of water donated.”

A few weeks ago, she headed up to Menindee with her husband Matthew to provide relief. This time, they’ll travel to Wilcannia on 2 March, hoping to gather more support across Ballarat from residents and businesses before they go.

For those willing to donate water, Mrs Rumler recommends people grab 10 litre tubs, or slabs of 600ml drink bottles. She is also happy to pick up donations directly from people who can’t access the drop off point at Ballarat City Caravans.

“If you can spare an extra $6 on food shopping, give us consideration,” she said.

Mrs Rumler will attend a rally on 3 March, raising awareness of the Darling River’s devastation and calling for a royal commission into the mismanagement of the Murray Darling basin.
