Spring into fitness this season

AS warmer weather hopefully arrives in the coming weeks, residents of Golden Plains Shire are being encouraged to get fit and active.

A Spring into Summer campaign has been launched in the municipality as part of the Active Golden Plains strategy/

It’ll run for five weeks between Monday, 19 September and Friday, 21 October.

In partnership with local sports clubs, community organisations, fitness centres and instructors, the program includes 150 accessible all-ages, all-level classes and activities, and wellbeing sessions at are encouraging people to get out and about, moving, and making new connections.

Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said people to take up the opportunity to get into, or return to, fitness that’s fun and good for mental health.

“The new Active Golden Plains Spring into Summer program is a great way for residents of all ages and abilities to participate in physical activity,” he said.

“The Spring into Summer program not only provides opportunities for residents to get active, but also showcases the wide range of activities on offer throughout the Shire, from Dereel to Bannockburn and everywhere in between.”

Tennis, cricket, taekwondo, tai chi, cardio drumming, fishing, pickleball, walking, boxing, ‘mums and bubs’ classes, and more will all be part of the calendar of offerings.

Kickstart Kids Karate classes will run in Teesdale, and tennis sessions will take place in Grenville, Meredith, Bannockburn, and Inverleigh.

Free walking groups will be based in Smythesdale, Dereel, Bannockburn, Rokewood, Berringa, and Inverleigh, with cardio drumming in Ross Creek, and pickle ball, pétanque, fishing and disc golf in Smythesdale.
