State invests in safer town entrances

August 8, 2019 BY

THE State government is making gateway improvements to towns as part on an eight-million-dollar regional safety investment.

Walkers, riders and drivers in towns across western Victoria, including in Creswick, Buninyong, Daylesford, Hepburn Springs, Clunes and Beaufort will benefit from the installation of eye-catching signage and unique road markings.

Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Jaala Pulford said the changes will provide a visual reminder to drivers that they are approaching a town, prompting alertness and reduced speeds.

“These small changes will make a big difference to regional communities, boosting the safety of people.

“It’s vital that drivers are aware of the reduced speed limit when travelling through our regional townships, which is why we’re delving these community gateway upgrades,” she said.

Upgrades of a similar nature in New Zealand have reduced crashes by 26 to 35 per cent.

The upgrades are part of the $1.4 billion Towards Zero Action Plan and being delivered in partnership between the Transport Accident Commission.
