IT is sure to be muscles galore when the Strongman Show takes centre stage at the Royal Geelong Show next month.

More than 40 competitors will test their brute strength across five race disciplines and six different categories.

Strongman athletes will tackle the Axle Overhead Rising Bar for Reps, Tractor Pull, Carry Medley, Wagon Wheel Axle Deadlift for Reps and the crazy Conan’s Wheel.

Event judge and Strong Geelong coach Leigh Shaw said excitement was sky high for the event’s first appearance at the Royal Geelong Show.

“If anyone hasn’t seen strongman before, it’s putting bars overhead, pulling tractors, running with awkward objects and the Conans wheel where someone will pick up a weight and go round in circles until they drop… they are fun events to watch,” he said.

The tractor pull is sure to be a popular watch.

“We’ve run quite a few of these events here at Strong Geelong and also at the Melbourne Expo Centre. This is the first year we will be at the Geelong Show, and we are really stoked about it.

“We’ve had great feedback so far, and people are so stoked to finally have a competition in Geelong and not in Melbourne.”

Both men’s and women’s competitors will have three divisions to choose from, Div 1 being the heaviest, Div 2 in the middle and Div 3 for newer competitors.

Strength is obviously highly recommended.

“From open weight men, to under 80-kilogram men, there’s something for everyone… it’s scaled quite well depending on their size and strength, but you definitely need to be some level of strong and be putting in some training,” Mr Shaw said.

Competitors will do as many reps as they can with multiple heavy objects.

“The athletes are going to love feeding off the crowd and it’ll be great to see everyone get behind it.

The event will be the fourth and final round of a Victorian mini-series, with vital ranking points on offer for competitors.
