GRAMPIANS Health and Eating Disorders Victoria have received funding which aims to reduce isolation and improve the health and wellbeing of carers for people with eating disorders.

The grant was provided by Carers Victoria and seeks to create a community-based approach to supporting carers.

Conservative figures estimate that 300,000 Victorians each year are affected by eating disorders and their carers often experience loneliness, isolation, guilt, burnout, and loss of income.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the team at Grampians Health on this project,” said Susie Hansen, director of telehealth services at Eating Disorders Victoria.

“Carers of people with eating disorders often feel alone and overwhelmed, and these feelings can be exacerbated in regional areas where access to services is more limited.”

This project will allow carers to attend appointments and group sessions led by Eating Disorders Victoria carer coaches.

Group appointments will be conducted online, meaning people can do them from home.

Training will also be provided for a Grampians-based carer consultant, meaning the support will continue once the project ends.

Anyone who wishes to learn more about the project can visit the Eating Disorders Victoria website.
