Tai chi teachings to clear the mind
TAI Chi classes are set to return at Cape Clear Recreation Reserve alongside the fourth school term.
The program will take place weekly at 2pm from Wednesday, 5 October until Wednesday, 7 December at a total cost of $60.
Cape Clear Recreation Reserve caretaker and committee chair John Halliday said the classes have benefited the community socially and physically.
“It’s open to all ages, and it’s slow movement that enhances health, balance and coordination between the body,” he said.
“Participants often tell me it’s been an enormous health benefit for them. It’s full-on but it’s not intensive, and anyone can do it.
“Afterwards we also have an afternoon tea and a good natter and it’s been very rewarding for everyone in that respect in terms of bringing that community atmosphere.”
The classes have been running for four years, and are delivered by tutor Sandra Pearce of Lilac Moon Tai Chi.
Participants range from people in their late 40s to their 70s although the program is open for anyone who’s interested.
Starting out with 18 people, Mr Halliday said the classes dropped six during pandemic and he’d like to see numbers increase to 10 or more.
“We’d love to see another three to five people come on board because this has really created a good friendly atmosphere,” he said.
“We even have one lady coming from Ballarat each week, others from Snake Valley, Linton and Smythesdale, and they absolutely love it.”
