FOR the first time, Basketball Ballarat is hosting a golf day to raise funds for the sporting organisation’s foundation that seeks to provide athlete support, coaching and development opportunities.

“Basketball Ballarat has a foundation and the funds are used to assist families that may not be able to afford to pay fees or are struggling to pay for community sport,” said Basketball Ballarat CEO Neville Ivey.

“We have some money in the foundation, but we saw this as an opportunity, rather than relying on the same individuals, to have something focused on the foundation.

“A golf day brings our broader community together to have some fun and play a game of golf.”

The event is set for Friday 5 April at Midlands Golf Club, and Basketball Ballarat staff are looking for businesses who would like to donate a prize for the raffle, sponsor a hole, or who have any other ideas for involvement.

“This is our first year, so we’d be happy with everything from a meat tray to goods and services at whatever value,” said Mr Ivey.

“We are just trying to generate some understanding as to what the foundation delivers and have some fun.”

Mr Ivey said it is important all children have the opportunity to play community sport.

“The benefits of community sport of any description are well documented for the physical and health and wellbeing outcomes,” he said.

“It provides that opportunity for community participation and people feel connected to their community.”

Businesses who would like to get involved with the day can email [email protected], while team registration for the event can be found via bit.ly/3T8Clz2.
