Tea and scones for cancer cause
WITH Australia’s Biggest Ever Morning Tea turning thirty this year, one of the region’s regular hosts is set to join in the celebrations later this month.
On Saturday 23 September, members of Advance Meredith Association together with St Joseph’s Catholic Church will host the town’s annual morning tea fundraiser.
With money going towards the Cancer Council, Advance Meredith Association committee member Mary Foster said it’s important to continue supporting the event.
“It’s dear to the hearts of many people,” she said. “There’s been local people to Meredith who’ve succumbed to it. We have our own story. We lost a little boy in 2010 to a brain tumour.
“Cancer Council is a charity that most people are happy to come onboard and support.”
With the day centred around morning tea and light lunch, the event will feature a hippie and flower power dress-up theme with raffles, activities, a guest speaker presentation, and a silent auction to take place.
Meredith’s Biggest Ever Morning Tea typically raises about $2000 each year.
Ms Foster has been involved with the event since St Joseph’s members started running it about 14 years ago, and said it’ll be a great opportunity to come together for a good cause.
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the people attending,” she said. “This is our first time on a Saturday whereas previously it’s been during the week.
“Hopefully people will come along to support it, and bring their friends. We usually see between 40 to 60 people.”
Tickets are $25 and can be booked by calling Ms Foster on 0424 037 542 by Wednesday 13 September.
